ABU DHABI PLAZA … Beautiful venture in the city

Abu Dhabi plaza is one the key developmental projects implemented under the agreement of first President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev with the leadership of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and is envisioned to be completed by the time of Expo-2020 in Dubai.
It is located in Astana’s Special Economic Zone. The tower is named after the plot which it occupies, that was given by Kazakhstan’s president Nursultan Nazarbayev to Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed, president of the United Arab Emirates.
The contract for Abu Dhabi Plaza was awarded to a joint venture between Arabtec and the Greek-based Consolidated Contractors Group.
The Abu Dhabi Plaza is a multifunctional complex which is set to become the tallest building in Central Asia with a Height of 382 meters and 88 floors. It is fully funded by investors from the UAE to the tune of $1.6 billion. It is a matrix of buildings with retail and leisure area and a hotel cluster at the base that rises to form a series of office and residential towers, creating a new landmark on Astana’s skyline.
The mixed-use development will see the construction of five towers. It will contain 556 luxury apartments, 107,000m2 of office space, a five-star hotel with serviced apartments and a 50,000m2 retail podium with four large basement car parks below.
The retail podium contains elements which are a reinvention of a traditional marketplace drawn on the historic legacy of Kazakhstan’s traditional Bazaars by recreating a bustling marketplace ambience and also incorporate a light rail station and public square.
The building has been designed with the local climate in mind. The solar gain is maximized for thermal insulation in winter when temperatures can drop to -40 degrees and heat is harnessed by a heavily insulated north façade. It incorporates a series of temperate year-round winter gardens and allows light to be channeled deep into the mass of the buildings, creating a network of sheltered pedestrian routes through the site.
The tower has tried to accommodate all the requisites of climate, traditions and modernization. Abu Dhabi plaza is just a beginning of a long stretched developmental program of Kazakhstan.
