Once upon a medical journey spanning over four decades, the remarkable career of Prof. Dr. Kamil Yalcin Polat has been nothing short of extraordinary. Born in Erzincan, Turkey, in 1962, his dedication to the field of medicine began to unfold, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of healthcare.

With a current position as the Head of Organ Transplantation Center and General Surgery Specialist at Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital in Istanbul since 2018, Dr. Polat’s journey started much earlier. His expertise has been a cornerstone at Memorial Ataşehir Hospital, where he has served as the Head of General Surgery Center since 2010, contributing significantly to the hospital’s reputation for excellence. So far he has personally experience about 2000 liver transplant He s doing kidney transplant too .Also he has experience complex hepatobiliary cases such klatskin tumor, extended liver resections,pancreatectomies etc.

Before his Istanbul ventures, Dr. Polat made significant contributions to the medical community in Erzurum. From 2003 to 2010, he served as the Head of the  Center at Ataturk University Organ Transplantation Training, Research, and Application, solidifying his position as a respected leader in the field.

However, Dr. Polat’s impact is not confined to Turkey alone. Between 1999 and 2000, he assumed the role of Center Manager at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the USA. During the same period, he also served as a General Surgery Specialist at Mount Sinai Hospital. These experiences in the United States added a global dimension to Dr. Polat’s expertise, further enriching his understanding of international healthcare practices.

His academic journey is equally impressive, marked by a series of educational achievements. Dr. Polat earned the title of Professor in 2001 and Associate Professor in 1996, both in Turkey, showcasing his commitment to academic excellence. His foundation in General Surgery began at Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine, where he completed his Medical Doctor Education from 1980 to 1986. Notably, he specialized in General Surgery from 1987 to 1991, further honing his skills.

Dr. Polat’s contributions extend beyond clinical practice. With 50 articles published in SCI Expanded journals and over 100 articles domestically, he has actively contributed to the scientific community. His memberships in prestigious associations such as the American Society of Transplant Surgeons underline his commitment to advancing medical knowledge globally. Additionally, he presently holds the position of Head of the Scientific Committee for Liver Transplants within the Turkish Ministry of Health.

Recognitions have followed Dr. Polat throughout his career, including the TUBITAK Gold Medal in Chemistry, TUBITAK Scholarship, and noteworthy awards like the Palandoken Municipality Outstanding Service Award.

In pursuit of continuous learning, Dr. Polat attended vocational trainings, courses, and conferences internationally. Notably, he completed oncological surgery training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and a Master’s degree in Liver Bile Ducts, Pancreatic Surgery, and Multiorgan Transplantation at New York University, Mount Sinai Hospital.

On October 6, 2023, Dr. Polat, as the Head of the General Surgery and Organ Transplantation Center at Istanbul Memorial Bahcelievler Hospital, delivered an informative conference titled “Current Evaluations of Living/Cadaveric Donor Liver Transplantation.”Dr Polat has personally experience about 2000 liver transplant and more than 1000  kidney  transplant .In center series, pediatric liver transplant rate is about 25% All of them success rate is about more than 90%. The event garnered attention not only from the medical community but also from dignitaries and academicians, emphasizing Dr. Polat’s influence in the field.

Dr. Polat’s collaborative spirit is evident in his work across various hospitals and units, including Bahcelievler Hospital, Atasehir Hospital, and the Liver Transplant Center. His impact resonates through Gastroenterology Surgery, Robotic Surgery, Oncological Surgery, and the Transplant Surgeries.
